The venue
Entering the tall wooden gates of the Walled Garden is like stepping into a secret garden where you are greeted by a 40-metre long pergola of beautiful wisteria, roses, clematis and grape vines. The Walled Garden is at the heart of Tilgate Park and once served the historic Tilgate Estate. The garden is home to some stunning examples of different types of gardens and planting including a wildlife garden, rockeries, peaceful formal gardens and ponds and an evergreen hedge maze.

We have three areas within the Walled Garden which are all licenced for your wedding ceremony, with a choice of indoor or outdoor locations, making Tilgate Park the ideal choice throughout the year.
The wedding garden
The Wedding Garden is a magical private garden, able to seat up to 100 guests. The 18-metre long aisle leads to a wooden arbour where your ceremony can take place. Afterwards, you can choose to remain in the Wedding Garden or enjoy the wider Walled Garden, serving your guests with some pre-reception drinks whilst you take the opportunity to explore the rest of the park with your photographer.

Marquee and arena
At the other end of the pergola is our 24m by 12m marquee and arena. The light and airy marquee is fully lined with ivory drapes and has chandeliers and fairy lights to make it truly magical. You can choose to host your wedding ceremony and reception here or move to the marquee and arena after your Wedding Garden ceremony.
Our large marquee features a carpeted hard floor and an amazing Zone Array speaker system which provides fantastic sound for dancing but also ensures your guests can chat amongst themselves comfortably whilst sitting only a few metres away.
Outside the marquee is the 1,000 square metre arena, which provides ample room for extra entertainment like giant garden games, a mobile bar or caterer. It’s also conveniently located next to the evergreen hedge maze where both young and old enjoy finding (and losing) each other around each twist and turn.

The Barn
Also within the Walled Garden is The Barn. You can choose to host your wedding ceremony and reception here or move to The Barn after your Wedding Garden ceremony.
With its warm and intimate atmosphere, The Barn is perfect for smaller weddings and celebrations where every detail matters. The Barn comes with everything you need for a comfortable and memorable experience. There are on-site toilets for your guests’ convenience, a small kitchen to support your catering team, and a private outdoor courtyard that’s ideal for drinks receptions or those all-important photographs. It is a blank canvas waiting for you to make it your own!

Wet weather
Although we always hope that the sun will shine on your wedding day, there’s no guarantee of this, so we always have an inclement weather back-up for weddings in the Wedding Garden. The Barn is a licensed venue so is suitable for your wedding ceremony and reception should it become too wet or windy, giving you the option to move indoors if you prefer (additional costs apply if not already booked).
Facilities
There are public toilets available for the use of your guests in the Walled Garden. However, you may wish to hire additional toilets to be sited within the arena.
The Barn has an enclosed courtyard, two unisex toilets, a large disabled toilet, a kitchenette and a selection of tables and chairs.
